Fictional doppelgangers

Since the 1990s, Magdalena Samborska has consistently adopted a post-feminist stance, drawing primarily on Dadaist and Surrealist strategies from the 1920s. She works adeptly in digital photography and video, analyzing various issues concerning female identity and corporeality. The exhibition features several dozen photographs from the past eight years. These have not yet been shown in Łódź. The works focus on the themes of the doppelgänger, dual identity, and the imprecise citation of well-known objects of art and religious worship. This is a personal artistic diagnosis and a reckoning with the tradition of art. This is not journalistic photography, but rather photography that raises important and difficult-to-resolve issues, reaching back to age-old moral dilemmas.
